Making Singapore society more graceful..

In a few hours, Singaporeans will start voting for their favorite parties.
Come next Monday, it will be back to our usual routine, working or child minding.
No doubt colleagues will be having a lot of post-commentaries and story/jokes sharing.

Cycle repeats every 5 years.

Have we seriously thought of how Elections can affect our lives, our children's lives and even Singapore in general? Living in Singapore can be too comfortable, where we are pampered with material comforts and we take things for granted. Everything is so so convenient !

====== ====== ====== ====== ====== ======

Personally for Daddy, a gracious society is more important, and harder to achieve. Singapore can be the No1 in infrastructure, processes, and even services, but if Singapore still lacks graciousness.... that would be so sad. How long does Singapore society need to evolve from third world to first world mindset?

Some examples of inconsideration :
- people pressing the lift shut in your face
- blocking the Bus and MRT entrances so others cannot alight first
- hijacking "Reserved" seatings or eating in the trains?
- do we really need to use tissue paper/ umbrella to "Chop" reserve a seat in food court?
- littering. Why so many people are still throwing their rubbish everywhere? Do they know that we have a contigent of "old" cleaners who are working hard to keep Singapore's streets clean?
- if a driver signals to filter, please be patient, and not speed up to block !

The points listed above are common sense, but people choose to conveniently ignore.

Daddy thought we can afford to be less kiasu and kiasi, in our pursuit of a better lifestyle.
Hey, even simple "thank you" and "welcome" are getting more rare nowadays !
Before society develops to become more self-centered, Maybe we can encourage our kids to practice graciousness from young.

At the same time, Daddy thought we can do with less rules and fines or even legislation.
Is society not mature enough to think for ourselves, are Singaporeans really too selfish to care?
Daddy doubt draconian rules can stop inconsiderate behaviors completely.
It is up to you and me, to help ourselves, our families, our children..

What can we do to help Singapore moves towards a better society?

- starting with out kids, show them virtues like being considerate, polite, sharing etc. Parents should aspire to be role- models first :p
- do not turn a blind eye and act blur when you know something is wrong. Example in a train, we can help to ask someone to give up his seat for a pregnant lady.

Nobody is asking you to be a policeman, but if everyone keeps quiet, more people will believe that it is ok to be anti-social. Elections come every 5 years, but building a graceful society might take generations.

Before we forget, please vote for SengkangBabies' Boon Yee :p

Hollywood After Hours

We all know about Sentosa Resort World's Universal Studios (USS), but are you aware of what goes on after the Sun sets? Universal Studio's Hollywood zone is transformed into another scene.
Hollywood After Hours allow you to explore Hollywood from 7 to 10pm on Fri and Sats.

All you need to know :
1830 - tickets go on sale (limited tickets, and queues start at 1730 !)
1900 - welcome
2100 - fireworks at the lake (there is only one lake at USS)

Dinner is available at China Bistro and Mel's Drive-In. Mel's meal prices are more economical, Burger set cost around $10+ and single burger or HotDogs cost around $6. China Bistro is a restaurant, so we suspect it will be more expensive.

This Shiok burger is "Shiok"! Like BK's bacon burger, only nicer (thumbs Up !)

We had fun, as you can see in in our pictures.

The Hat shop is Hot! We had fun trying so many Hats and making silly poses :)

Is Shrek and Fiona asleep already in their Far Far Away condominium?

Galactica shines differently n the evening

Firework starts at 9pm sharp. Families gather at the lake for a spectacular show.

Video : boom boom boom

After the Fireworks, we spent one more hour roaming around.

We love cars

Madagascar's container ship

Daddy told Kang to stay still for 5s, Fail!

We hope you find our Hollywood After Hours fun, Good Night :)

Bring your family there on a Fri or Sat evening, we recommend you to stroll across the Sentosa Boardwalk. It is cheaper and healthier to walk :p

Read what we did during USS preview back in Feb2010 --

Who needs a maid to carry our Army bag !

If you have been following Singapore news, the hot story a few weeks back was this young Soldier who got his maid to carry his fullpack ! First impression would be to chide the spoilt child, but wait, are the parents not guilty as well?

In our society today, it is so common to see parents shelter and pamper their kids.
So can we blame the kids when he grow up expecting princely treatments and take everything for granted?

Daddy was thinking, how can our SengkangBabies grow up to be independent and self reliant? To start with, maybe kids can help with some household chores.

Wash car or corridor? No problem.

Look, we even invested in a whole suite of chambermaid accessories for Wen Xin. But Wen Yi seems more interested.

He tries to force Mei Mei to sweep the floor :(

Wow, this is cool. Now Mummy can outsource jobs to her little helpers.
Who needs a maid when our kids are so hardworking :p

Do you need anyone to keep your laundry or wash your utensils?
Ironing clothes and washing dirty linen would be too difficult for now hee hee.
(we better not push our luck)

Who enjoys a solid bone-breaking massage?

Tips to bring up independent kids

1) Ask your primary school kids to bring you across a road, instead of the parent walking infront. Throw "Responsibility" to kid to train his confidence. (please watch up for cars too as Primary school kids are still easily distracted !!)

2) Siblings are for life, they better appreciate this fact earlier, and take care of each other.

3) Other worthy traits to pick up, Empathy, Sharing, independence.

disclaimer..

Even if we have a helper, Mummy and Daddy do not believe our kids need to be "served". A helper is just there to lighten the household chores.

We reward our kids after their hardwork, we are not maltreating anyone :p
Daddy is still working on his Kids-Duty-Roaster version 1.
