What is memory?

It need not be a photo from 20 years ago. It can be a moment just a minute ago. Or memories can be your own milestones, like your first kiss, your baby's first crawl, passing our driving license.

Daddy went down to Singapore Memory's pre-launch event at National Library. Loved the lift deco, and fantastic view from 16th storey Pod.

The computer terminals allow us to preview first hand, and even to upload your nostalgic photo :)

Met a lot of friends. new and old, shouting out to all "Hello" ! We are all interested in some part of Singapore's heritage :)

We, ourselves, determine our own memory. We hold our own destiny, and we chart own own paths.
What we have today, will become our memory, ten years down the road.
(Imagine, Wen Wei will be in Army by then ..)

Museums Night exposure

National Museum and Singapore Arts Museum are iconic museums around Bras Basah.


To capture night scenes, all you need is a tripod and "manual" setting :
- iso 100
- shutter 20 to 30s
- aperture F13 to F18


Beautiful illumination in the evenings.

Singapore Arts Museum, we always see people stopping to take photo at this spot.


The reflection pool above Bras Basah MRT is another popular spot to capture SAM's reflection.

Police Heritage Centre

As part of this year's Museum Children's Season, Daddy found out about "Police Heritage Centre". It seems that it was open to the public since 2002 (but why is it so low profile?)

Daddy told them we are in Police HQ, must behave.. but kids started giggling.
When will my boys learn to take my word seriously :p

Inside the gallery, uncle Steven explain to us :
- the different police roles (Prison, Riots, Traffic police, Coast Guard)
- how some brave Policemen die in the line of duty. Respect.
- some road name are named after old Commissioners (Dunman Rd, E Tong Seng, Duxton Rd)
- Wei even had an opportunity to photo-fit a snatch thief!


After the tour, kids got a chance to play police.
Daddy could not find those police attire from yesterday when police wear short pants. (direct translation from Hokkien)

Overall, a fun experience. Our boys now know more about the police, and they understand it is sometimes tough to catch criminal (movies make it look easy). It is a pity that no photographs are allowed in the gallery, and we did highlight that the experience would be better if kids can "interact and role-play", maybe :

- play police catch thief, with baton, handcuffs. Taser would be a bonus :p
- wearing a helmet, riding an old-time police bicycle, or maybe take a spin on Traffic Police's Wrx
(... some points are exaggerated, please do not mimick at home with young kids ..)


Outside the compound, we could not resist posting infront of the drama poster.
Our boys are fans of this 9pm Ch8 show (which just ended 27Jun).
They understand Police motto CLIF stands for Courage.Loyalty.Integrity.Fairness


If you are interested in visiting Police Heritage Centre :
- call 64782123 for an appointment (at least 5 days in advance)
- you will need to furbish all participants' IC number for security clearance
- on the actual day, please bring along your IC/passports for yourself and kids to facilitate your checkin-in process
- Do not drive, as you cannot park in Police HQ. We recommend you take a MRT to Novena and walk 10min.

Peranakan Museum, Cooking Capers

As part of 2011 Museum Children's Season, SengkangBabies were invited to a cooking session at Perenakan Museum. Initially Wen Wei was apprehensive, as he associates cooking with being girly (one of those boys-must-be-macho stuffs)


This is our first visit, and we like the decorations. Beautiful contours adorn every corridor in the Museum !


Daddy was half-expecting to meet "小娘惹"' (little Nonya) and gang hiding in one corner. This Nonya drama got more people interested in everything Baba (Peranakan). (** Nonya pronounced as noah-nia)


Actually, we have some Baba blood in us, as Daddy's great grandpa was a baba from Indonesia. We adore spicy food and Daddy even enjoy eating Nasi Lemak with his hands !!

Before we can cook, we should learn about the Baba culture, and some ingredients and utensils first :)




This giant pot is called "Kam Cheng", it means 感情 in Hokkien (ie in love ).


Kids need to mix and match today and yesterday's kitchen "appliances".


Kids were ushered back to their lecture room, True Blue Cuisine's chef Baba Benjamin will teach us how to cook today. Is your apron ready?


#Menu 1 - Lemon Grass juice (Lemongrass + Lime combine into a refreshing mocktail)



#Menu 2 - Cold Tofu (This dish is good, as Wei did not leave anything for Daddy ! )

Please tell me my tortoise is cute :)

Wei is now a certified Baba little chef :0
