We blog about filming SengkangBabies for a feature in DadsForLife recently. The video is out, and we love it, kids are reminding Daddy to pull our card game out again :p

Daddy met a few other Daddies at DadsForLife's 2nd anniversary luncheon.
Hello friends (Alphonso, Andrew, Ed, Isaiah and team from Dads4Life Hillary, Sofina)

You can read an interview with Richard (Chairman, Father Actions Network) here.
His team is working to get more Dads involved in the kids' lives :)

Video : Look at Singapore Dads' achievement :)

Thank you to the team at Dads and MCYS for featuring us, we really had FUN along the filming process, and the video captures our family spirit.

Cheers,

Filming Sengkang Babies

Remember how we enjoy playing DadsForLife's card game?
We are one of the families featured in Dads4Life's 2nd anniversary video.

Not sure how the video will turn out, but we sure had fun throughout the filming process. The lightings, reflector, microphone, the props look hugh and serious, but the kids were more interested to disturb the crew.

Camera action ! More photos at SengkangBabies Fanpage.

The whole process lasted almost 3 hours, with a few NGs keke.

One good thing which came out from the shoot, we had to clear our hall first. Suddenly, we got so much space to roam, at least for a few more days :p

To my friends and fellow Daddies, see you at DadsForLife luncheon next week :)

**updated 2011Nov23 - Video is out :)

Dads For Life's Family card game

Dads For Life is giving all Dads a deck of card.
Extracted from "Knowing Me, Knowing You" card game : Game is designed for
Dads and children to get to know each other better
.

Daddy would like to share some of the quotes and questions found within.

Along the way, parents and children get a better understanding of each other

Sometimes, you get inspirational quotes from some VIP, or even a humble quote from a kid who
yearns for more attention from his papa.

It does not matter who is asking the questions, as every family member will have different perspectives.
Play "Knowing me, Knowing you" together as a family, we promise you there will be some laughters :)

Are you interested in this card game? Just email Dads For Life at "dadsforlife.sg@gmail.com"
to request for a free deck.

Parenting, from a Daddy's point of view

Recently, Daddy caught up with a few other Daddies (William, Peter, Kelvin, and Vincent) to kiss and tell on our little darling/s. JuliaGabriel and DunBarJones had invited a few chaps to share their kids-raising experiences.

We had Fiona and William from JuliaGabriel, and Janice from DunbarJones joining us, and the theme was :

"Developing Happy and Confident Children -
A Dad's Perspective"

We met up at the Wine Company @ Evans, and Daddy was wondering whether we will stay sober to spill our stories :p

Why Dads? We all agree that more Dads are getting involved in family life, be it taking care of kids, bonding with babies or even studying with teenagers. We see a mindset change from Asia's Daddies. For once, it might be interesting to talk about parenting from a man's point of view.

In case you are wondering, Daddies do not need to be discipline master, and they do not have to show stern face with big cane all day long. Today's kids do not response positively to threats, must use negotiations ...

In summary, we went through some of the following pointers , and we laugh ourselves silly whenever we share common experiences :p

1) How do we manage Jealousy and kids?
Kids are jealous because they feel insecure, they suspect parents are not paying enough attention.
We can try to empower the older ones, let them feel responsible for their younger siblings.
Example, only big brother can have this privilege bla bla bla. Kids would feel trusted, and they know Mummy and Daddy still love them :)

2) Reading stories- who is reading?
There is a lot of difference when kids read, and when they listen to Parents read.
Parent's tones, and our accents can let their little minds wander, and can make a storyline more Dramatic. When kids love reading, they will automatically love to gain more knowledge and become more curious (eg what does the next chapter holds?)
We all know how "Show & Tell" is trying to encourage kids to love reading, and Express themselves :)

3) Language and Communication
Kids are using English as their primary mode of communications, so much so that their second language (Mother tongue) might be neglected.
Our Wen Yi is one good example, every Mandarin-Question got an Answer-in-English !
We just hope this is a passing phase, and we can only try to encourage him to speak more Mandarin.

William shared with us that in some families, Mummy will speak English, and Daddy will speak Mandarin to their kids. From young, Kids are brought up to breathe and speak both languages comfortably (it takes discipline and determination from parents)
To prove his point, William can strike a conversation fluently in English, Hindi, Mandarin, even a few dialects !

4) Kids behaviour (both mischievous and good, either funny or exasperating)
Some kids instinctly know how to wriggle themselves out of trouble. Peter and William shared how their boys will snuggle up and express "apology" like little angels. No matter how angry a parent can be, a kid knows how to melt our heart :p

Daddy shared how the little ones always see and learn, then improvised and perfect their little schemes ! Kids are smart, and sometimes parents are really at their mercy haha.

Got a kid who likes to bite (ouch)? Daddy Vincent shared how he coax his little boy by reading "Teeth is not for biting" :)
And it works !

5) How to manage kids sleeping pattern?
A lot of parents always ask how some kids can sleep early, while others sleep pass midnight? It all boils down to the parent's habits! Parents sleep late, kids sleep late. This challenge is easier to surmount when kids are still young, to cultivate into their habit and routine.

Disclaimer, it does not mean non-social Daddies are not involved Daddies. It just happen that our group tonite are happily embracing social-media and even blog about out baby/toddlers/preschooler daily hiccups .

Daddy is just glad that our generation's Daddies are playing a more active role in parenting. In fact, Fiona ask what could be the "sudden" realisation that Daddies are now more involved? (maybe more working mummies and men to chip in with parenting, Daddies are finding it cool to parent their kids, and even sharing their growing up stories...)

Have you thought about why more Dads are embracing parenthood?

~~~ ~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Anyway, we enjoy each other's company on that evening, and Daddy would like to take this opportunity to thanks Fiona, William and Janice for hosting us. Till the next meetup, you will definitely hear more gossips from Daddies.
We heard the next meetup might be over Soccer! That would be so cool !
Boys will be boys, and that include the men :p
Dads4Life Sandcastle adventure
A few good men pull their families along for an afternoon sand session with Dads4Life.
We went to East Coast to mingle with other Daddies and families,
and at the same time, try to build a winning SandCastle!
As NDP was just over, we got little Singapore flags to decorate our castles.
We were very Happy that Xavier could join us today :)
Hip Hip hooray !! we did not win, as competition was too strong :p
Look at the other amazing castles, great family effort :)
Everybody remembered to have fun along the way.
Hint : The winning castle got "durian" look-alike seeds for decoration. Congrats "Jbabies and Gang"
Who are our judges? Hillary, Paul, Nicholas and Sofina.
Never mind we did not win, Daddy Vincent and Xavier enjoy playing with sand and water.
We were starving after shoving and pushing for 2 hours :)
Look, kids got souvenirs too, everyone is a winner !
Beehoon, cakes, fishball, otak, every kid eating to their heart's content !
Some other Dads and family whom we met, hello everybody :)
Daddy is sure there will be more opportunities to catch up.
Thanks to Dads4Life for organizing a families get-together, we hope another event is not too far away :)
Dads4Life promotes active parenting, and share other Daddies stories in their portal too. Do grab your man, husband, boyfriend, or maybe teenagers to drop by for a visit --> http://dadsforlife.sg/
Dads for Life Conference 2011
Daddy went to 2011 DadsForLife conference at Suntec in May.
Actually, he only stayed for lunch.
Even before the conference starts, Daddy was surprised at the hugh turnout!
A lot of daddies are interested to learn more about how they can become better fathers, and to learn from the gurus.
Nobody is born to be a father, we all learn along the way.
(Daddy acknowledge that Mummies normally have a steeper learning curve)
What's up with the Online buzz? Tweeter, Facebook, Blog ?
DadsForLife would like to engage more Dads through the online medium
Got to know a few new friends, Isaiah (from J Babies) and Patrick (from PatrickPang). Not forgetting Jeremy and Hillary from team Dads. (Wave to everybody)
Dads For Life Contest - vote for me
DadsForLife is organising a contest for Daddies to express their muses online. Read --> http://contest.dadsforlife.sg/Entries/71
Daddy Andy's blabber ...
~~~ ~~~ ~~~

Everybody says kids learn everything from their parents.
I disagree.

Parents got plenty to learn from their kids too, such as :
- life need not be complicated
- we can do with less worries
- no harm being more cheerful
- we should think positively
- and we shall be contented (知足常乐 )!

Without my kids, I could never appreciate the simple joy of a playground, garden or even a pool. Watch, as our kids scream in excitement at every butterfly, worms or even a simple raindrop.

Kids open our eyes, and broaden Daddy’s horizon :
- I am humbled by their thirst for knowledge.
- Their curiosity never cease to amaze us.
- Their memory? Well, let us remember not to swear in front of them, they never Forget!
- Innocence, how can we get angry when they smile like an angel?

Everyone of my kid is a blessing.

Daddy cannot imagine living a life without them.
When they call me Daddy (爸爸), I am the happiest man.

Thank you my children, you have enriched Daddy and Mummy :)

~~~ ~~~ ~~~
Now, if you find my story interesting, vote for me :)
1. Simply go to this website --> http://contest.dadsforlife.sg/Entries/71
Dads for Life and Canon photography introduction
It was raining the whole day, but some 30 parents were at
Marina Barrage for Canon's photography tips. This event is jointly organised by DadsForLife.
The carpark was almost Full, and a lot of tourists also came to visit the Barrage.
Rain or Sun, we are determined to have fun, and enjoy ourselves.
Canon's speaker is Lawrence, who shared with us photography fundamentals and tips. Daddy learned that he should use a tripod more often, so that he will be in more pictures.
The kids were wondering why this 'kor kor" kept snapping away.
And they were on his focus for a while.
Daddy has to bring some cars to entertain the boys, as he is worried we will make a scene :p
Wondering why Wei behaves so differently in two pictures below?
Our boys also like to pose with girls keke.
After the class, maybe Daddy got some homework.
Daddy: Currently still seating on the bench, considering jumping into DSLR world.
But Daddy need to get more exposures to ISO, Aperture, and Shutter first on his compacts. Otherwise, Daddy will only use new DSLR as a point and shoot
(which defeats the purpose?)
Part 2 of our WET Marina Barrage escapade is up..
..or you can click on link to view our maiden Barrage trip first
