Singapore Zoo

On Easter holiday, we troop to Singapore Zoo. We notice Wen Xin is now very curious about animals, and there is no better classroom than our Zoo at Mandai.

We rent a Mini Explorer Wagon for $18, Daddy thought it should be Fun to let the kids act "passengers". Notice anything difference from 2007 to 2011? Click to read our 2007 Zoo experience.

As we went on a holiday, big crowd! Daddy has to park 10min's walk away.
Lesson learned, go Early, Zoo opens at 0830.

Giraffe are unfazed by the visitors

Maybe Yi should not eat so near to the proboscis monkey?

We found some Tropical fruits, and everybody recognize Durian as the King of Fruits.

When we are hungry, everybody munch on bread..

Our flurry friends also got a spread of fruit-salad buffet

Video : Cute African Squirrels

Fortunately for Xin and Yi, they got a Taxi to hop onto, whenever they get tired

We explore the East side of the Zoo today.

..and Xin does not like all the creatures :p (scare scare)

Modes of transport in zoo

Daddy told them that crocodile do not mind snacking on humans.

More walking, our two 哥哥 are good and strong!

Video : Wagon fun

Yi and Xin smiling for camera. (they do not look tired)

Carnivorous animals (Wei is omnivorous )

Zebras and deer eat grass, Rhino eat dung?

Mummy and the boys

... and girl

Xin : Look look ! what is that animal?

Family pose with Zebras

Our Zoo is hugh, and it is impossible to cover every hectare within one day.

Zoo Zoolympix
If you are going to the Zoo soon, take note that there is a Zoo Olympic from 23May to 12Jun2011. Zoolympix is an annual event, and Kids are tested on their agility, speed, and brain power. Face painting and tattoo for all :)

We got a pleasant surprise when WildlifeReservesSingapore decided to pack us a festive box!

It was so thoughtful to bundle set-of-fours, so our kids will not fight haha.

(WRS is the organisation running our Zoo, Birdpark and NightSafari, and upcoming RiverSafari)

Singapore Zoo Hoo - where kids roleplay as zoo keeper , Vet etc

In Dec holiday, Singapore Zoo has an interesting programme for kids. Called Zoo Hoo, it allows kid to role play multiple roles working in a Zoo (example Zoo Keeper, Vet, Photographer, Horticulturist). Kids understand Zoo, but Zoo Who? (pun intended).
So Daddy told them read Zoo-Hoo as 猪虎 (Mandarin pronunciation for Pig and Tiger)

It was already drizzling at 0900, we registered around 1000.
The game is easy, navigate and find six stop-points in the zoo, role play the respective roles, collect all six stamps.

Our first stop is Wildlife Photographer.
We have to map the baby animal to their parents. As we watch Animal documentaries, this task is Easy :p

2nd Stop is Veterinarian, who wants to be a doctor?
Zoo staff certified that we did not "mis-handle" the tapir, we pass !

Along the way, we stop to interact with various animals.
Some prefer to sleep out the rain :)

Video : ballerina hippo, so graceful

Australian Outback is always one of our favourite site, as we can see Kangaroos.

Video : This lizard looks ghastly

You might have noticed by now why only two boys follow Daddy?
Well, we left No3 and 4 home with Mummy, so we can run faster, and see more.

It was a good strategy, as Daddy can explain in detail to the curious boys.
Otherwise, Daddy could be busy chasing after Yi (no3), or pacifying Xin (no4) !

Video : We climb the tree in ButterFly Walk. We still cannot find any butterflies !

Video: penguins (we heard some have migrated to BirdPark)

We found station 3 behind Ah Meng (memorial).
Being a Conservationist is Fun. We are equipped with guns, and warpaint.
..we need to protect our environment and animals...

Video : Load and shoot, own time own target.

** river Safari pictures taken from http://riversafari.com.sg/index.html

Stop 4. Who wants to be a Zoo Keeper?
We have to feed the "correct" food to Lion, Hippo and Bear.
Luckily, no one embarassed Daddy by feeding vegetables to lion :p

Video : feeding time.

Luckily, nobody needs to clear any poo poo :p
Next, we explore the lizard world. Komodo dragons in our zoo looks docile, but it bears a nasty bite (with germs) yucks !!
Video : we saw a fat crocodile too

Cute mousedeer, and old Tortoises.

Video : the adults did not understand that the baby squirrel wants to be left alone!

Daddy say this iguana looks serious. He was not moving even when we went near!

We like this T-shirt. Who wants to work for his passion?
Let's play Work or let's work play? Both seems fun !
Not-for-sale :(

5th station. Who is horticulturist? Daddy just know this job entails taking care of the flora in our zoo. Watch this clip from Zoo.

We became busy bees to help pollinate the flowers :)
This helps flower and plants to spread their seeds and ensure continuity.

Video : Fastest bee is...

Finally, we arrive at Kidz Rainforest to act as Show Presenter.

We taught a hedgehog to follow our instruction to look for food.
Kids were trilled. Thu cute sonic-hedgehog helps haha.

Hooray, we completed the course in under 3 hours.
Everybody who complete their course will get one scoop of Ben&Jerry.
For the first 100, extra pint of ice cream !

On our way back, we spoted this massive LENS. Someone looking at the stars?
Each lens would easily cost 5 figures ..gulp!

The six stations were housed under tents, the rain came and go at least four times witinh hours. Singapore Zoo is really a RAIN-forest !

Now, we can share our ice cream with our siblings.
Afterall, we told the two younger ones, we went to school, which sort of rhymes with zoo :p
Wen Kang is already telling Daddy to enroll him for next year's Zoo Hoo ! Another Fantastic outing at the zoo.
More info and registration details --> http://www.zoohoo.com.sg/
(Remaining dates in Dec --> 11, 12, 18, 19)

Learning Vision @ Singapore Zoo Outing

Last Tuesday was Zoo day for Learning Vision.
Parents were invited to join the their kids' excursion.

...but the distant thunder and gloomy skies threatened to spoil our fun.

We arrive earlier, and waited patiently for our friends.

See, the floor is wet ! but Learning Vision brought the sun with them :)
We spotted students from at least ten other schools today !!

Our small friends, impressionable and always chirpy, enthusistic.

The kiddos in blue, hand in hand, we tour the zoo.

Video : Tram ride never fails to bring on the cheers :)

The wheels on the bus goes round and round...

For the smaller kids, the hikings can be tiring. Some started to pester teachers to hug keke.
We stop over for a break at the pgymy hippo enclosure.

We saw Kangaroos in Australian Outback, but why are they not hopping?

Next, we took the tram to visit Animal Friends !

Before our four-legged friends came out, the cast invited kiddos to hip hop :)

Doggies tickle us with their acrobatics.
Daddy has to explain to Wen Yi that Uncle is not hitting Jack (russel) with stick!!

Video : Animal Friends performing !

After the show, we get to pet the dogs, and indulge in bubble clapping yeah !

Lunch at KFC. Teachers were rushing here and there
to settle the kids, and bring them food.

This pony at the nursery attracted a lot of stares :)

While waiting for our tram, we entertained ourselves.

Video : swinging kiddos

Are we ready to head home? Look at the happy kids :)

As parents, Daddy would like to take this opportunity to thanks our Teachers :
- who were alway keeping their eyes wide open, incase one child wanders away.
- ensuring the kids were well fed and taken care of
- most importantly, teachers allow kids to relate what they learn in classrooms, with outdoor activities.

Video : which way to exit?

We bade bye bye to our friends and teachers. Who wants milk?
Both Kang and Yi knocked off in the car even before the first traffic junction haha.
..their friends must have slept in the coach too :p

We look forward to more outdoor tours with our school in the near future !!

**Need more zoo pics, we also went to the zoo with our cousins back in Aug -->
