Nikon D5000 long exposure at Boat Quay

One evening, Daddy took time off with friend and went photo shooting at Boat Quay.

After setting up, with F18, 30s and iso100. (The first photo is exposed to 60s)

Trying to capture more reflections off Singapore River, but our angle was too low. Maybe, results would be different if we setup tripod on the bridge. If you want a wider picture, be prepared to spend $$$ for a wide-angle lens.


New cameras (not only DSLR) are very sophisticated, and long-exposures (manual setting shutter speed above 10 seconds ) are easily available. Bring your tripod along on your next field trip, and have fun with your camera experimentation !

Singapore River logo design

What comes across your mind when you think of Singapore River?
Pubs? Merlion? Clarke quay?

For Daddy and Mummy, Singapore River is where we took our wedding photos 10 years ago.
We look so young back then :)

Candle Night @ Marina Bay

On 5th Nov, there will be a Candle-Night event near Merlion park.
This event is supposed to let us find our inner self, and take our time to
appreciate our surroundings, family, and friends.

Daddy find it too philosophical, but we know our kids will enjoy candles+lantern !

From 6pm onwards, kids will be invited to diy their lanterns, followed by a candle-parade between 7 to 7:30pm, then planting the candles around Merlion. Click to view photos from 2010's Candle Night event.



Since this project was initiated in Japan, some Japanese students will be participating in the event too. More updates on "Candle Night @ Marina Bay" can be found on their fanpage.


Beside the candles, we know our kids (especially Boon Xin)
loves Merlion.

Merlion Hotel - how close can you get to our Merlion?

The artist (Tatzu Nishi) box up our Merlion, during Singapore Biennale 2011. A night's stay is worth $150, but all 32 nights are snared. In the day, we can hug Merlion, and try to imagine soaking yourself in a bathtub, with MarinaBaySands in your "window".


The red Merlion Hotel draws a lot of attention. Entrance is Free :)


People are queuing before 10am opening. You might have more time to explore Merlion Hotel during weekdays.

This is the view to kill for, but Daddy is worried about privacy. Everybody can peep and see what you are doing haha.

There was a bit of haze, blocking the Marina Bay view.

This might be the only time Merlion become a Hotel, and you can literally "Hug" Merlion.

Singaporeans will always wonder why Merlion is so popular with tourists ??

Clarke Quay Night exposure with Nikon D5000

Clarke Quay, Boat Quay, Singapore River's bank was once lined with bumboats and warehouses. Today, this Quays are R&B hives for pubs, dining and entertainment.



When night falls, the beautiful lights bask onto Singapore River.


Daddy like the fast moving clouds. The silky water is always so colourful but calm.



Mummy has given Daddy time off to induldge in his hobby today :)

NDP 2009 preview- from Swissotel

09Aug is Singapore's National Day. We tried to get some tickets for NDP 2009 but were unsuccessful.
Instead, Daddy book a room at Swissotel to view the fireworks. Although this is not Singapore's actual National day, we got more than we bargained for.
All the HarbourFrontView rooms come with a balcony, cool.

We saw all types of birds, ships, soldiers, and of course firework.
And we love Merlion.

Day 1 - View from 3956 . Daddy got wobbly legs from the heights.

Day 2 - Stroll to Merlion park early morning.

The air is fresh, and no cars on the roads.

Daddy told us about the Old satay club at Esplannade.

Finally, after 20 minutes.. our Merlion.

Yawning and grouchy look,,try asking your kids to wake up at 0700 Sunday morning, and March 4Km hee hee.

How come Day 2 does not have Wen Xin pictures? This little buffalo was hiding in Mummy's sarong sling.

Let's go, breakfast is waiting.

After checkout, we drove to Flyer. Daddy has never been here yet, but Mummy has brought the kids for her company dinner :(

Daddy : We had our hesitations whether booking a room would be a wise idea. What if NDP stage is too far away, what if lower floors cannot view the spectacular fireworks? this and that.

Our worries were unfounded. The kids were showing off their firework encounters with their friends :p It is nice to be a visitor in your home country once in a blue moon.
